Background for the Sustainability Plan
In late 2007, the Severn Sound Environmental Association (SSEA) and its partner municipalities obtained funding from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to develop a community‐based Sustainability Plan. At that time, a Steering Committee was formed, along with a community‐based Sustainability Advisory Team, to develop the plan. The Plan was developed with extensive consultation throughout the year 2008, and the Plan’s draft was completed in December of 2008. By Spring 2009, all of the nine municipalities in the watershed had endorsed the Sustainability Plan. At this time, the Plan was moved into the implementation stage.
What’s in the Plan?
The Severn Sound Sustainability Plan includes a Vision, Goals, Strategic Directions and Actions that will, when implemented, ensure the sustainability of the watershed for generations to come.
Vision
By 2050, the Severn Sound watershed will contain a network of communities that have achieved a sustainable quality of life for all citizens by developing a common culture of environmental, economic and social balance.
