Municipal Action Plan
The Township of Tiny has been a long time leader in promoting environmental sustainability – both within the corporation and throughout the community. Not only was it the first municipality in Ontario to join the Blue Communities Project, which phased out the sale of bottled water in municipal facilities, the township was also the first of SSS’s municipalities to join the Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program in January 2018.
Since joining, Tiny has successfully achieved Milestones 1, 2 and 3 of the program and continues to look for opportunities to reduce corporate GHGs and encourages its residents to do the same.
In addition to acting on climate change, the township has already implemented a number of actions that contribute to a reduction in GHGs. In 2015, Tiny upgraded 390 streetlights to light-emitting diodes (LEDs), reducing their energy consumption by an estimated 70 per cent. More recently, the township has began focusing of promoting local food, which not only reduces community GHG emissions but also aims to raise awareness in the community regarding the importance of eating local, and to make local food more affordable and accessible to our community.

“An integrated approach to the Climate Change Action Plan is key to dealing with some of the main sustainability issues in our region. The Plan identifies the steps needed to reduce GHGs; both in the municipality and in the community, and prepare us for the challenges of a changing climate” – Deputy Mayor Steffen Walma, PCP Program Council representative, Township of Tiny
