SSS: Celebration of National Pollinator Week, June 19-25, 2017

Municipalities Involved

SSS encouraged the participation of each of the sustainability projects municipal partners, including the Town of Midland, Town of Penetanguishene, Townships of Georgian Bay, Severn, Oro-Medonte, Tiny and Tay through various actions.

Project Description

In celebration of National Pollinator Week, SSS and partners accomplished the following:

  • Municipal support through proclamations by 6 of our 7 partner municipalities.Click here to see the proclamation template.
  • Display of educational posters promoting National Pollinator Week in each of our 7 partner municipalities.
  • Distribution of over 1,400 native wildflower seed packets to residents throughout our 7 partner municipalities, resulting in over 5,600 square feet of new pollinator habitat.
  • Content on the websites and newsletters of the Township of Georgian Bay and the Township of Oro-Medonte.
  • Port McNicoll display/welcome board in Tay Township displayed 'Celebrate National Pollinator Week, Free Seeds from SSS at Township Office'.
  • Planting and seeding of 500 square feet of 'Pollinator Friendly Habitat' at Calvert Street Park by SSS staff in partnership with the Township of Tay Parks and Recreation Department, staff, the Karma Project and the Township of Tiny's Protecting our Pollinators team.
  • Planting and seeding of a plot of 'Pollinator Friendly Habitat' in the Midland Community Community Garden with support from Councillor Pat File, Midland Community Garden and volunteers.
  • SSS and partners were active on social media, resulting in +30 retweets and over 2,000 interactions.
  • SSS designed and installed 2 'Pollinator Friendly Habitat' signs - 1 at the Calvert Street Garden and 1 at the Midland Community Garden.
