Green Building

On average, North Americans spend approximately 90 percent of their lives indoors (Black and Straube, 2013). In consideration of this, buildings including homes, commercial, retail, workplaces, etc. should be built to sustainable standards that reduce the environmental impact and contribute to improved human health and well-being. Multiple green building certification frameworks can be applied, and reviewing the life-cycle of buildings, including design, construction, operation and demolition should be performed. Green buildings also take in account green retrofits, material use and management, and indoor air quality and aesthetic issues.
