What is the LCCAP?

SSS has developed a Local Climate Change Action Plan (LCCAP): Regional Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Summary. The LCCAP was completed to support our municipalities and their communities in taking steps to fight climate change. This project offers a unique opportunity for regional collaboration and innovation and brings together our 7 partner municipalities, supporting organizations and community stakeholders (residents, businesses, public agencies, First Nation representatives) to discuss ideas and solutions to the emerging threat of climate change. The LCCAP includes both a corporate (municipal) and community inventory of GHG emissions, identifies a GHG reduction target, and prioritizes actions to reduce municipal and community GHG contributions.

What are the next steps by Sustainable Severn Sound (SSS) staff and the Sustainability Committee (SC)?

    1. Submission of the corporate and community GHG inventories on behalf of the Town of Penetanguishene, Township of Tiny, Township of Tay, Township of Severn and the Township of Georgian Bay, to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program Secretariat to achieve Milestone 1, 2 and 3 of the 5-Milestone framework for reducing GHG emissions
    2. Meetings with municipal representatives to identify respective opportunities and priorities for each local government
    3. Selection of GHG reduction targets per municipality and community which contribute to the larger regional GHG reduction targets of 15% less from municipal operations by 2028, and 6% less from community activities by 2028
    4. Deputations and presentations to our partner municipalities, partner agencies and community organizations
    5. Development of an implementation plan for the LCCAP recommendationsClick here to read the Local Climate Change Action Plan (LCCAP): Regional Greenhouse Gas Summary
