Municipal Action Plan
The Town of Penetanguishene is recognized as a leader among small municipalities in responding to the challenges of the 21st century to create and maintain a sustainable community.
In January 2018, the town demonstrated leadership by committing to taking action on climate change and approved a model resolution to join the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program. Since then, Sustainable Severn Sound has worked closely with the Town of Penetanguishene to achieve Milestones 1, 2 and 3 of the PCP program.
GHG emission summary
In 2015 the Town of Penetanguishene emitted approximately 68,805 tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e), with corporate emissions accounting for 1% of this total or 774 tCO2e and community emissions accounting for 99% or 68,031 tCO2e.
Community energy consumption data was provided by Alectra Utilities Inc. and Enbridge, while corporate information was provided by the municipality itself.
